Helen Croome is the voice and songwriting talent behind the name Gossling. After triple j Unearthed buzz and some airplay on the station itself, she’s putting out her debut album Harvest at the start of November.
First single Never Expire is an upbeat and richly-detailed showcase for her distinctive voice—sweet but tart, with the expressive phrasing and spooky edge of Bjork or Joanna Newsom.
But it’s the new Oliver Tank remix that really stands out. The Sydney producer hones in on Never Expire’s dubby tempo and enchanting vocal. The rich textures remain, but they’re stripped back to surging synth tones that fade in and out of audio clarity. With a sparse digital percussion track replacing the band accompaniment, there’s nothing anchoring these tones down, and it’s easier to get lost in the haze—there’s nothing upbeat about this remix.
Gosslin is releasing her debut album ‘Harvest Of Gold’ on November 1 – follow her on Facebook for more.
